What people are saying about us
. . . Robert
Lara Click on "Ode to Alegria" a poem writtem by Robert Lara at one of our performances. Alegría de San José is not a canned group. They have shown great creativity and adaptability to go beyond their mission to have their dance performance meet the visual art and historical aspects of the American Art of the 1940s exhibit. The result, "Ritmos Latinos", was above and beyond what I had anticipated. The performance was infectious, and it was amazing how they got the audience to participate. This group is also unique in that they have BOTH a really strong artistic product and a remarkably strong business end as well. Madelyn Crawford Your show (Tradicion y Cultura) was the highlight of my year! Mike Hernandez . . . they are performers of the highest caliber . . . with an amazing amount of knowledge of traditions, styles and techniques. The performance and production values that Alegría de San José (at SF Ethnic Dance Festival) presented were excellent . . . Paula Tracy Smuin Alegría de San José is innovative and pioneering among Mexican Folk Dance groups in that they incorporate different aspects of the culture without losing a bit of authenticity. Rudy Figueroa (Of Alegría de San Josés "History of the Mariachi") . . . this dance group paid unusual attention to historical accuracy. Jonathan Clark The performance by Alegría de San José was an excellent example of Hidden Villas mission . . . to teach multi-cultural understanding. The company performed dances from Jalisco and Veracruz and talked about the Mexican culture. The costumes were exquisite, the dancers were professional and dynamic and the performance was both educational and entertaining. Diane Holcomb, Director of Community Programs - Hidden Villa Ranch |
